Yogic relaxation

Rest as the tradition understands it: a practice in its own right, for the nervous system and the mind.

Practical guidance

The body has two broad modes: one that prepares for effort and one that rests and restores. Much of daily life keeps us in the first. Yogic relaxation is the deliberate practice of the second.

Its forms are simple. Savasana at the end of practice. Yoga Nidra, deep guided rest in eight stages. Chanting, where a long, steady exhale and a single sound give the mind somewhere to settle.

Rest is not a reward for working hard enough. It is part of practice, every time.
