Consciousness and power: the two principles whose union the Tantric tradition describes.

A traditional model
The Tantric traditions describe reality through two inseparable principles. Shiva is consciousness, still and unchanging. Shakti is power, the dynamic energy through which consciousness becomes the world.
In the body, Shakti is said to rest at Muladhara as Kundalini, and Shiva to abide at Sahasrara. The rise of Kundalini through the chakras is described as Shakti returning to Shiva.
