Philosophy
Yog did not arise on its own. Its vocabulary, its texts and its teachers come from Sanatan Dharma, the eternal way, the tradition many people today call Hinduism.
At the same time, Yog does not ask anyone to adopt a creed. Patanjali names Ishvara as one object of devotion among the practices, and the method rests on what the practitioner can observe for themselves. To learn Yog is to learn from a living tradition with respect for where it comes from.
